A Message from the President

A message from the President

Dear Friends,

Everywhere, every day, our Spider community accelerates our incredible momentum. This past academic year offers a panoply of examples, and we are delighted to share some top highlights of our progress in this installment of the University of Richmond’s Year in Review.

Since last May, our staff and faculty have received prestigious awards and grants for teaching, mentoring, and research across the disciplines — from global health to technology innovation. Our students secured fellowships and scholarships to advance their own research, pursue internships, and contribute to the public good. Richmond was again recognized for excelling across a variety of student experience areas, with students reporting a high quality of life and top career development offerings.

We welcomed leading scholars and public figures who offered different perspectives on a wide range of topics, from the origins of American democracy to the future of work. We explored how we might strategically and responsibly use AI to innovate, advance our mission, and prepare our students for success in a rapidly changing world. And we encouraged Spiders to share their ideas, engage in debate and dialogue, and develop skills inside and outside the classroom with real-world impact.

Spider Athletics celebrated historic seasons, and fans turned out in droves to cheer on student-athletes. Alumni, parents, and friends gathered for receptions and celebrations, and people who love Richmond showed their support during record-breaking annual fund drives.

In sum, our community made remarkable progress. I hope reading this Year in Review inspires you and energizes you for what comes next. This is our time. Thanks for all you do to support the Spiders of today and tomorrow.

Sincerely,
