Dear Friends,
I am honored and grateful to be a member of the University of Richmond community and inspired daily by Spiders’ dedication, talent, and ingenuity. We accomplished so much during the 2024–25 academic year, and I’m delighted to share our university’s first, digital year in review, which highlights some of our key achievements.
Over the past year, our remarkable students, staff, and faculty have continued to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to academic excellence. In the course I co-taught with Professor Jim Monks on the Economics of the University, I was invigorated by our students' good questions, ideas, and appetite for learning. And, despite headwinds facing higher education, I have been thrilled to see so many Spiders continuing to garner recognition for their outstanding research, creative production, teaching, and mentorship this year.
Thanks to Richmond donors, programs like EnCompass and the Richmond Guarantee, and our Bonner Center for Civic Engagement, our students traveled domestically and internationally, and engaged locally in our city and region, continuing their studies in new contexts and exploring career pathways.
With support from our incredible coaches and athletic staff, our student-athletes completed another tremendous year of competition, celebrating victories and breaking records. Four of our teams won championships, many student-athletes won individual competitions and gold medals, and Tina and I had a terrific time traveling to California with our women’s basketball team to witness the program’s first win at the NCAA tournament.
This year, we also grew as a community by showing up for one another at artistic performances, celebrations, and events; creating knowledge together; and striving to understand experiences and perspectives that differed from our own. We celebrated milestones like the Robins School’s 75th anniversary and welcomed renowned speakers to campus.
Finally, we looked ahead and continued to plan an even brighter future — increasing access and affordability, investing in academic excellence, and developing the University of Richmond Campus Plan — a roadmap to guide the physical development of our campus for the next decade.
I hope you enjoy reading these highlights from the UR campus.
With your partnership, I remain convinced that our best days are ahead.
With gratitude,
Kevin F. Hallock
