Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)

Beginning Monday, March 16, CAPS will continue regular hours of operation and modify how our services are offered, as follows:

Per state licensing laws, CAPS clinicians are only authorized to provide services to clients who are in Virginia.  Routine counseling and psychiatric appointments for existing clients will be conducted by secure video-conference.  Current CAPS clients who are still in Virginia, and want to continue CAPS services should email their CAPS clinician or the CAPS front desk (caps@richmond.edu) for video-conference instructions.

For students remaining on campus who are not current CAPS clients, but would like to initiate services, please call CAPS (804-289-8119) for further instructions on next steps.

Students on campus who are having a mental-health crisis:

During normal working hours (8:30am-5:00pm Monday through Friday), please call CAPS (804-289-8119).

For after-hours crisis, please call URPD crisis number (804-289-8911), dial 911, or go to the nearest ER.

Students who are returning home and need mental health services, are strongly encouraged to seek care locally.  If you need assistance in finding a provider, you can contact a university or college in your area and ask for their list of local providers. There are three online search engines which may also help: openpathcollective.org, psychologytoday.com and goodtherapy.org.

Also, Therapy Assisted Online (TAO) is always available from any location and can provide you with tools and skills for a variety of different concerns. Follow this link for access to TAO: Self-help: www.taoconnect.org If needed, you may also email your CAPS clinician for additional help in finding local resources.
