Footnotes
There are two kinds of footnotes in text: content
footnotes and copyright permission footnotes. Number
these footnotes consecutively in the article with superscript arabic numerals
and type both types of footnotes together on a separate page with the centered
title "Footnotes." Indent the first line of each footnote 1/2 inch (5-7 spaces).
Content Footnotes:
-
In most cases, the author integrates the article best by
presenting important information in the text, not in a footnote.
-
Provide footnotes only if they supplement or amplify information
in the text.
-
Do not include complicated, irrelevant, or nonessential
information.
-
You should convey only one simple idea in a footnote.
Copyright permission footnotes:
- Acknowledge the source of quotations if written permission to quote is
required.
- APA policy permits use of up to 500 words of APA-copyrighted journal
text without explicit permission.
- Enclose a copy of the letter of permission with the final version of the
paper.
