Jepson School of Leadership Studies

The Jepson School of Leadership Studies was founded to meet the aspirations of a liberal arts education. All too often, educators talk about preparing future leaders, without developing a rich understanding of leadership—the knowledge, ability and conviction to address social problems and live lives of consequence. In bridging this critical gap, Jepson stands on the forefront of scholarship and education.

To teach for and about leadership, the School uses the multiple disciplinary lenses of economics, history, literature, philosophy, politics, psychology and religion. The thoughtfully designed and sequenced curriculum reflects Jepson’s commitment to studying leadership across disciplines. Courses with hands-on components help students understand how to apply knowledge. Some students study international leadership and pursue independent research.

A Jepson education investigates leadership as a process and a relationship among people. It explores fundamental questions about who we are, how we live together, and how we influence the course of history. It exemplifies the spirit of the liberal arts: to educate people to take an active role in the world. The Jepson School helps students realize their distinctive capacities and apply their learning for the good of our global society.
