Out of all of the disciplines of cognitive science, artificial intelligence has made some of the most rapid strides. Only decades ago, the computer was just being created. Today, there are robots and programs so advanced that they mimic aspects of human thought and behavior very well. Our understanding of the mind has been crucial to the invention of such machines. At the same time, the development of these programs and robots have shaped the way we see the human mind. Although the field of artificial intelligence is relatively new, it is already heavily intertwined with the other disciplines that make up cognitive science.
